| Abstract/Contents: | Experiments were conducted on established turfgrass to evaluate herbicides for pre- and postemergence control of smooth crabgrass [Digitaria ischaemum (Schreb.) Muhl.]. Effectiveness of herbicides was based on percent crabgrass control and degree of injury to turfgrass. In the preemergence test, effective crabgrass control (90-100%) was provided by benefin, butralin, DCPA, oxadiazon, prosulfalin, disuron, and HOE-22870. Good control (80-89%) was obtained with fluchloralin and H-26905. Poor preemergent control (less than 70%) and/or excessive turfgrass injury were obtained using napropamide, perfluidone, CGA-24705, HOE-29512, M-4212, and SN-533. Materials giving effective postemergence control of crabgrass included DSMA, MSMA, HOE-22870 and HOE-29512. Poor control and/or objectionable turfgrass injury resulted through use of butylate or RO-3-7042. |
