Abstract/Contents:Refutes a common belief that golf greens need some sort of "backdrop," such as trees. States that "an overabundance of trees can make it more expensive, and perhaps physically impossible, to grow healthy turfgrass...excessive plantings also can be detrimental." Also states that backdrops can affect playability, making a hole seem easier than it actually plays.
