Abstract/Contents:"A widely used plant growth regulator (Trinexapac-ethyl-PRIMO) has proven effective on several warm- and cool-season species of turfgrass. Questions have arisen about its use on Common St. Augustinegrass that was infected with SAD virus. Rates of PRIMO ranging from 0.125 to 0.5 fl. oz./1,000 ft² were applied to a 20-yr-old stand of Common St. Augustinegrass which had been infected with the SAD virus for at least 15 yr. The lawn was well fertilized before and did not suffer moisture stress following PRIMO application. Visual ratings of discoloration and growth suppression were made weekly throughout the study. Higher rates caused some discoloration of the St. Augustinegrass; however, certainly within most homeowner's range of tolerance. Higher rates produced dramatic levels of growth suppression which coupled with occasional mowing, produced a high quality Common St. Augustinegrass turf."
