Abstract/Contents:Delay in sowing P. dilatatum and P. notatum decreased leaf area, photosynthetic capacity and respiration during autumn and early winter. In P. dilatatum, photosynthetic capacity decreased with aging and was little affected by the 1st frost, but in P. notatum photosynthetic capacity was nearly constant until the 1st frost caused a marked decrease. In both grasses respiration decreased with aging and was little affected by low temperature after sowing but was affected by low temperature at the 6-leaf stage. It was concluded that environmental conditions at the 6-leaf stage were especially important for overwintering following autumn sowing. F.en s.
