Abstract/Contents:Investigates golfers' perception of green speed and reports results of an experiment conducted at the Hancock Turfgrass Research Center at Michigan State University. "From these experiments it is evident that a golfer's ability to detect variations in green speed depends not only on the difference in green speeds, but also the magnitude of the original green speed. The average golfer seems unable to detect a 6 inch variation in green speed, regardless of the original speed. However, a variation of 12 inches can be detected when the original green speed is relatively slow, but is less likely to be detected as the original green speed increases."
