| Abstract/Contents: | In 1906, during the construction of the Wheaty Hills Golf Club , "rough and bunker areas were stripped of all good soil for the fairways, tee's, and greens." Certain problems arose such as the edges being cut back year after year, and sand excavated by golfers creating deep bunkers and large lips. "An approach from ground zero was taken, to start and create a sound long range program of bunker renovation. So far, three holes have been completed at a cost of approximately $8,500 per hole. To give you an idea of the costs, they spent $4,810 on topsoil and sand. Equipment rental, $4,760; sod, $3,688; seed, $651; labor $11,619. Total cost $25,529.43. Additional work was done such as wood chip paths, shrub planting, ground leveling, seeding and drainage, for a cost of $19,277.28." |
