| Abstract/Contents: | Various growth retardants including five experimental coupounds were evaluated in field experiments at the Turf Research Center, University of Massachusetts. The objectives were (1)to determine the effectiveness of growth retardants (2)to establish the optimum rate of application, and (3) to determine the duration of growth suppression. All treatments were applied in 675 L/ha at 152 KPa to 'Baron' Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.) turf which was mowed (Poa pratensis L.) turf which was mowed twice after 100% greenup. Mowing height was maintained at 3,8 cm throughout the summer. Injury to the turf (0 to 100%), turf quality (1 to 9; 6 being commercially acceptable), vertical height, and above ground growth (clipping weight) were determined every two weeks for 10 weeks. |
