USGA agronomists work with golf course superintendents and grounds crew starting two years in advance of a championship tournament. Ideally the course is set up to provide a fair and equal challenge to all golfers. The USGA official defines distance for each hole, fairway contours, height of turfgrass cut, tee marker and cup placements as well.
