Abstract/Contents:Experiments were conducted to evaluate herbicides for pre- emergent control of crabgrass and goosegrass and to determine if split applications would improve their control. Effective crabgrass control was achieved by bandane, benefin, DCPA, terbutol, tricalcium arsenate and from six newer materials - Buban 37, CGA-10832, EL-131, napropamide, oxadiazon, and PPG-139. Results with H-22234, HOE-22870, HOE-23408, MBR-8251, proxazolon, R-24191, RO-7-6145 were poor while alachlor, CGA-17020, and H-25893 deserve further study. Of the eleven herbicides tested on goosegrass, good to excellent control was provided by bandane, DCPA, EL-131, nitralin, and oxadiazon. Split applications did not improve control.
