Abstract/Contents:"This study evaluated the response of three Kentucky bluegrass cultivars to heat stress and the exogenous application of ABA. The cultivars that were used included 'Unique', 'Apollo['] and 'Northstar'. Four replicates of the following treatments were included: Heat stress (30-35 degrees Celsius), Heat stress + ABA, and Control (optimum temperature without ABA). Overall turf quality decreased for all three cultivars under heat stress. Plants sprayed with ABA showed further decrease in turf quality for 'Unique' and 'Apollo', but showed an increase for 'Northstar'. For all three cultivars the average relative water content of the leaves under heat stress + ABA was higher than those that were only under heat stress and lower than the control. Leaf water potential was highest under heat stress + ABA for all three cultivars. For both 'Northstar' and 'Unique' the control samples had the lowest osmotic potential and the heat + ABA samples had the highest, but 'Northstar' had a much broader range between the two. For 'Apollo', the heat treatment had the highest osmotic potential and the control and heat + ABA treatments were similar."
