Abstract/Contents:"The O.J. Noer Foundation was established in 1958 for O.J. Noer as a retirement gift from the Milorganite distributors. Noer was the first agronomist for the Milorganite Division of the Milwaukee Sewarage Commission. He conducted the original studies for the use of Milwaukee's dried sewarage sludge in the 1920's. During his career he traveled North America extensively, visiting most of the continent's golf courses, and became know [known] as one of [the] foremost turfgrass agronomists of his time. He also established one of the first turfgrass oriented soil labs in the 1930's. The O.J. Noer Foundation sponsors only basic turfgrass research. It favors projects which also support graduate students. The Foundation often co-funds projects with other funding organizations. Funding levels average $5,000 to $10,000 per year. Occasionally it funds single outstanding projects for amounts up to $45,000 per year. A 5-person review committee reviews all proposals. Funding decisions are made by the board of directors at each of its 3 meetings, held in the summer, fall, and at the GCSAA conference. Forms and information can be found at the Foundation's web page, www.noerfoundation.org."
