Abstract/Contents:Presents the preliminary results of a study to test how effective commercial products are at stimulating soil microbial activity and "to determine if a significant relationship [exists] between putting green quality and soil microbial activity." Soil cores were taken and evaluated for microbial activity, including dehydrogenase and FDH hydrolysis activity. Additionally, "the plots were visually rated for putting green quality" based on bentgrass color, uniformity, and extent of localized dry spot development. Results include that "this exploratory study [serves] as preliminary evidence that the products tested can significantly alter the dehydrogenase activity in the root zone of sand-based putting greens and, in so doing, enhance putting green quality."
