| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses what happens to chlorpyrifos in ground water and wells and also on the surface of turfgrass leaf tissues. States that "in water, the half-life of chlorpyrifos ranges from 1.5 to 35 days, depending upon the pH and temperatures" and that "the residual concentration of chlorpyrifos degrades rapidly, two to six hours after the application on turf." Also discusses the changes in the U.S. use of chlorpyrifos products, stating that "a voluntary cancellation of most in-and-around-the-home uses of chlorpyrifos in the U.S. market...is [a] direct result of the Food Quality Protection Act." Suggests that Canada "will not necessarily follow the same path as the U.S. agreement...The chlorpyrifos issue in the United States is likely to have been politically motivated by pressure exercised by well-meaning but information-deprived environmental lobbyists." |
