Abstract/Contents:Discusses the strategy of integrated pest management (IPM) which is a program that "uses all suitable methods and techniques in a compatible manner to maintain pest densities below levels causing unacceptable injury." Details the IPM approach which emphasizes preventive maintenance and minimizing pesticide usage. It also suggests the use of natural predators when trying to reduce infestations. Emphasizes the importance of monitoring and plant health when trying to combat infestations. Suggests that the potential rewards of IPM "are substantial in terms of improved pest control, reduced costs and less reliance on pesticides for insect and mite control."
