| Abstract/Contents: | Suggests synthetic seeding of smooth cordgrass as a faster and more efficient method for coastal erosion control in Louisiana, where an acre of coastal wetlands is lost every twenty minutes. States that cordgrass synthetic seeds are "[encapsulated] somatic embryos that functionally mimic the behaviors of true seeds and sprout into seedlings under suitable conditions." Describes the processes of embryogenesis, encapsulation, and germination of synthetic seeds, which make synthetic cordgrass seeds potentially useful in erosion control strategies. |
