| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the need for superintendents to be included in the planning of a golf course construction or renovation project. States that "far too often, the superintendent is restricted from having the proper amount of input on a renovation or construction project. Many times the important issues of grass species, design concepts, construction companies, course specifications, water sources, permitting, realistic expectations, travel corridors, environmental considerations, realistic costs, etc., are all decided by someone else." Also states that "experience in construction and renovation can be the difference between the success of a project or continuing disaster and headaches. Experienced superintendents contribute positively to a project by saving time and money in the areas of organizing work, scheduling staff, specifying quality materials, recommending design features that will save hundreds of thousands of dollars in future course maintenance, coordinating the various contractors and people involved with the projects, etc. Most of all, the experienced superintendent will provide an employer with the best chance for success. A quality superintendent will save his or her salary hundreds of times over." |
