| Abstract/Contents: | "Two trials were carried out during 1962 to evaluate in terms of yield a particular urea formaldehyde fertilizer in comparison with standard organic and inorganic nitrogenous fertilizers for mown turf. The weekly yields from plots receiving three dressings of sulphate of ammonia, dried blood or hoof and horn meal, given at intervals through the season, were compared with those from plots receiving an equivalent amount of nitrogen as one dressing of the urea formaldehyde (U.F.) product given at the beginning of the season. It was found that the sulphate of ammonia treatment gave greater yields of grass throughout the whole of the season while U.F. materials acted more like a readily available inorganic fertilizer of relatively low nitrogen content than a slow acting organic. Further tests are being carried out in order to assess the effects of the the U.F. fertilizer on turf characteristics, e.g. susceptibility to disease, liability to invasion by weeds etc." |
