| Abstract/Contents: | Overviews the well-established methods of construction and maintenance of sports fields. Lists chemicals that can be used to kill undesirable grasses in order to sow desirable seed. Emphasizes that this method of using chemicals avoids the trouble of digging up the turf for reseeding. Mentions new grasses that have been introduced to the market and their benefits. Compares "fertilizers based on urea-formaldehyde polymers." Touches on several weedkillers and the weeds they are most effective treating, and states that "two weeds which have caused most trouble have probably been clover and yarrow." Mentions turf pests including earthworms and leather jackets and the products that can be used to defend against them. Touches on regularly-occurring diseases. |
