Abstract/Contents:"Selected pyrethroid insecticides (deltamethrin, lambda-cyhalothrin, bifenthrin, and the experimental insecticide EXP 1 CS) and a non-pyrethroid industry standard (chlorpyrifos) were evaluated for residual control of black cutworm (BCW), Agrostis ipsilon on creeping bentgrass turf. Laboratory-reared BCWs were introduced into PVC cylinders placed in treated plots 0, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after insecticide treatment (DAT). Insecticide residual activity was evaluated 3 and 7 days after each introduction date (DAI). When BCW were introduced into cylinders the same day insecticides were applied (0 DAT), all insecticides resulted in 100% mortality by 7 DAI. For BCWs introduced 7 DAT, by 7 DAI all treatments except EXP 1 CS applied at 37 g AI ha-1 and chlorpyrifos had provided 100% BCW reduction. By 7 DAI for BCWs introduced 14 and 21 DAT, all treatments except chlorpyrifos were maintaining good to excellent BCW control. For BCWs introduced 28 DAT, by 7 DAI (35 days after insecticide application), both lambda-cyhalothrin (74 g AI ha-1) and EXP 1 CS (74 g AI ha-1) at the high rate and deltamethrin still provided at least 80% BCW control. No phytotoxicity was observed during this study."
