Abstract/Contents: | Describes the Canadian government's response and subsequent pesticide and herbicide regulation strategies after receiving the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development's report "Pesticides, Making the Right Choice for the Protection of Health and Environment." Explains that the Canadian government claims that registered pesticides in Canada meet recent health and environmental standards, and the Pest Management and Regulatory Agency is currently reevaluating herbicides and pesticides available for lawn and turf. Also states that "the federal government promised to work with provinces and territories to reduce reliance on pesticide use for lawn care through the application of Integrated Pest Management Principles" which promote responsible use of pesticides and herbicides. Describes other pesticide and herbicide regulation strategies, such as marketing garden pesticide products as ready to use formulations, limiting availability of combination products, and promoting spot rather than broadcast applications. |
