| Abstract/Contents: | "Creeping bentgrass strains, although varying in winter hardiness, survived the winters better than Colonial bentgrass or annual bluegrass in Alberta, Canada. Northland creeping bentgrass proved to be the most suitable grass tested for bowling and golf greens for the prairie region. Soil warming with electric heating cables ensured winter survival of turfgrass. Snow mould and other causes of winter-killing were controlled by raising the soil temperature a few degrees during cold periods in the winter. Consumption of electrical energy was in the economic range." |
