His creations, including Highland Links in Nova Scotia; St Georges near Toronto; Banff Springs and Jasper Park in the Canadian Rockies; and Capilano in Vancouver, rank among the world's greatest courses. If you combine the work of Robert Trent Jones and other Thompson protégés, you have an idea of how his concepts have affected golf architecture. One protégé, Cornish, in the Foreword, borrows from Thoreau to say Thompson marched to a different drummer. Thompson was a character larger than life." p. 55 |
