Abstract/Contents:Discusses research on organic-based strategies in turf establishment. Briefly presents two studies; one study used organic amendment called bokashi, which is mixture of horse manure, brewery waste, wheat bran and charcoal, and which includes EM (effective microorganisms). The study found that "bentgrass established in a sand root zone amended with an organic mixture suffered much lower rates of dollar spot infection." In another study about the effects of incorporating composted biosolids into nutrient poor soils, researchers used ComTil and TechnaGro, which are composted sewage sludge and mixed woth wood products. States that results showed that "turf established more quickly in the compost-amended soil." Based on these studies, concludes that "incorporation of organic materials can benefit turf in a variety of ways."
