Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the impacts of the Supreme Court of Canada's decision to "uphold a bylaw enacted by the Town of Hudson, Qué. which prohibits the use of pest control products inside its jurisdiction." Describes how this decision means "that municipalities are now taking on the responsibility to deal with something that has been deemed legal by the federal government." Discusses golfer perceptions about pesticide use and golfer expectations for course conditions. States that "superintendents themselves can adapt if necessary, [Teri] Yamada [of the Royal Canadian Golf Association] said, adding they have already learned to treat their courses with only half the fungicides available to their counterparts in the United States." Explains that it is possible that "superintendents might have to manage a golf course without the use of any pest control products" and that "such a predicament might put them in a position where they would have to resurface their greens every two or three years." |
