| Abstract/Contents: | Profiles the study done by Michigan State University on maintaining a high school field on a limited budget. Comments that "many, in fact, responded on their surveys that they had no one on their staff knowledgeable about turfgrass." Investigates proper fertilization rates and amounts along with cultivation and mowing rates. Reports that in order "to determine the effectiveness of the treatments, the following measurements are being taken: turfgrass cover, turfgrass quality (color and density), surface hardness and tensile strength of the grass." Comments that "budget dollars are often not there for maintaining a safe athletic field. Adding to the problem, fields are being used at levels beyond their capabilities, given the lack of inputs." |
