Abstract/Contents: | Addresses the problem of unrealistic expectations concerning golfers and playing conditons. Describes the importance of getting golfers to become more supportive regarding environmentally sound maintenance practices. Provides outreach and education strategies like becoming a member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program, inviting golfers to participate in programs, teaching proper golf ettiquite to junior golfers, using tournaments as showcases, creating a display, mounting signs, requesting help with nesting boxes and hosting projects for kids. Lists the benefits of reaching out: gaining recognition and support for your management efforts, increasing golfer understanding of wildlife and environmental quality on the golf course, counter negative stereotypes about golf courses as polluters of the environment, and communicate your commitment to good stewardship.
