Abstract/Contents:Presents the results of a GGCSA survey to examine the issue of water use in Georgia. States that "the survey consisted of four questions regarding total golf course acreage, irrigated acreage, annual water usage and water source." Results include that use of potable water was extremely low, and "total golf course area averaged 192 acres, ranging from 70 to 450 acres with an average of 115 irrigated acres. During 2001, an average of 45 million gallons of water was used per golf course...This equals 14 acre-inches per year...Almost two-thirds (65%) of courses use 5-19", which is very encouraging." States that "in our estimation, water use is no different than the use of any other chemical. But like the use of chemicals, water use can be significantly reduced in many cases without harming the vigor of the grass. There is little doubt that water issues are here to stay, and golf courses will have to actively participate by providing survey information and actively participate in the debate as policy is developed."
