Abstract/Contents:The following is only a preliminary report. Four more years of research are required before sound conclusions can be made. The suprisingly rapid establishment rate of the Buffalograss in this study is due to the irrigated conditions. The significant differences was found in shoot density, vertical leaf extension rate, and internode lengths among the four cultivars observed. For the most part all cultivars proved to be quite similar in appearance and were capable in Turfgrass Quality in 1979 and 1980. However, in 1981, a difference in comparative resistance to weed invasion was observed. Texoka was the most resistant to weed invasion while Sharps was the poorest. No insect or disease problems have been noted to date. Three commercially available Centipedegrass cultivars were established in 1979. Due to the limited availability of vegetative material, the rate of establishment has been slowed. One notable observation in the good turf-forming charcteristics of Centipedegrass under alkaline soil conditions of pH 7.8. Only slight iron chlorosis has been observed on a periodic basis. A table showing the cultivar evaluations for turfgrass charcteristics of Buffalograss is included.
