Abstract/Contents: | Discusses how the market recovery in Southeast Asia will greatly increase golf course development in the region. Describes how in the late-1980s and early-1990s golf courses were overdeveloped at too great of an expense. Describes the roles of membership courses, pay-for-play courses, and resort golf courses in the golf course market of Southeast Asia. Addresses the fact that "in order for golf course development in Asia to continue to expand, local players have to become a larger part of the golfer demographic group." Discusses the specific golf course markets in China, South Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, The Philippines, Cambodia, and Myanmar. Concludes that "new golf course developments in Southeast Asia will need to be more carefully planned and will require a long-term commitment on the part of developerss, owners,, and operators in order to succeed." |
