| Abstract/Contents: | States that the objective of this study is "to determine a) the influence of preemergence herbicides on weed control and b) tolerance of warm - season turfgrasses." Shows how, including the untreated control, 20 different herbicide regimens were applied to four types of turfgrass (Tifdwarf putting green; 0.25-inch cut, Tifdwarf lawn; 1.0-inch cut, centipedegrass, and zoysiagrass). Results for weed control include "the application of Surflan, XL, the pendimethalin products and Regalstar compares favorably to that of Betasan and Ronstar for crabgrass control" and "all herbicides except Betasan, Surflan, pendamethalin 50WP at 1.5 or 3.0 lbs./acre, and pendimethalin 60DG at 1.54lbs./acre provided 70% or greater goosegrass control." Results for turfgrass tolerance include: "Pendamethalin, Surflan, XL and Bay BSW0411 applied February 26, 1986 retarded early spring green up when ratings were made in mid-April [in Tifdwarf at putting green mowing height]," "early growth of Tifdwarf bermudagrass cut at 1 inch was not retarded in the spring as severely as Tifdwarf cut at 0.25 inch," "in 1985, Ronstar WP was the only herbicide that delayed spring growth of centipedegrass," and "none of the preemergence herbicide applied in 1985 or 1986 retarded Meyer zoysia as the treated turf was as good as untreated turf when ratings were made in April, May, June, or August." |
