Abstract/Contents: | Discusses personal observations of Stanley J. Zonteck between the United States Golf Association's Green Section (USGA Green Section) and the Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI). Reviews the similarities in aeration management techniques. Other similarities and differences reviewed include anthracnose, money, time for golf course maintenance, labour, access to turf information, product testing, winter golf, traffic, and professionalism. "In summary, while there are huge differences in how golf courses are maintained in America versus the British Isles and Republic of Ireland, there are also similarities. Speaking for the United States Golf Association's Green Section, these agronomist exchange programmes have tremendous value in fostering a better understating of turfgrass maintenance and management on both sides of the Atlantic. After all, regardless of where you are growing grass, or the amount of money, manpower and machinery you have to do it, grass still needs the same basic-air, water, sunlight, some amount of fertilizer and plant protestant chemicals, and yes a nice crop of grass roots growing in the soil, on both sides of the Atlantic." |
