| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses some common problems associated with growing turf on steep slopes and their solutions. Says that problems include low infiltration of irrigation water, difficulty mowing safely, poor fertilizer uniformity, and difficulty mulching. Says that some solutions to these problems include replacing the turf with alternative plants, such as ornamental grasses or groundcovers, re-grading the area to something more manageable, "terracing or installing retaining walls," or changing management practices. Lists five effective management practices that will "greatly improve sustainability of a sloped landscape," including splitting the irrigation runs, aerating and topdressing, applying plant growth regulators, switching to "No Mow" buffalograss or fine-leaf fescues, or watering only the top of the slope. |
