Established in September 1983, this test is part of the National Fineleaf Fescue Variety Test. Forty-eight cultivars were seeded in three replications at the rate of 4.65 lb/1000 ft2. The mowing height has been maintained at 1.5 inch. A table provides 1984-85 annual and 2-year average visual quality ratings (1 to 9: 9=best quality) and visual color ratings on 10/31/85 (1-7; 1=yellow, 5=dark green, 7=blue-green) with significant differences indicated for 1985 quality and color ratings. Color ratings ranged form 3.3 (Tatjana, chewings) to 5.0 (several cultivars). 2-year avarage quality ratings ranged from 3.6 S (Tatjana, chewings) to 6.25 (Longfellow, chewings; spartan and scaldis, hard).
