| Abstract/Contents: | Briefly profiles Joe Louis Barrow Jr., executive director of The First Tee program. Discusses the incredible growth of the First Tee program, which Barrow attributes to "the great work by the thousands of individuals at the chapters and facilities, the strong public/private partnerships that have been created, the tremendous support of The First Tee Founding Partners annd the relationships wih various golf associations such as the GCSAA." Explains the addition of affiliate relationships to First Tee. Describes the birth of the First Tee Scholars Program, which was initiated when Dr. William Crouch, Jr., president of Georgetown (KY) College, "announced that he would dedicate two full scholarships each year to The First Tee participants." Discusses the various roles that superintendents can take to help The First Tee, including helping maintain First Tee facilities, donating equipment and time to help create and maintain facilities, service on First Tee chapter boards, and offering expert education to First Tee participants. |
