Abstract/Contents:Points out Keith McIntyre's pros and cons of Smectite clays versus Kaolinite clays to be used for cricket wickets. Suggests that "the swelling and cracking of wicket soils enable them to grow good grass. [and] provided a larger surface area that aided cation exchange [and had] high elasticity and cohesion." States that "Kaolinite clays made turf wickets difficult to prepare." Discusses the effects of rolling these soils, as well as the effect of early mowing.
