Abstract/Contents:Describes the cause and symptoms of fairy ring in turfgrass. States that "type I fairy rings are the most destructive in turfgrass and especially on putting greens" and explains that "the result is stressed and wilted turfgrass due to hydrophobic or water-repellent soil." Explains the "misunderstanding between fairy ring and localized dry spot (LDS)." Includes observations taken in a stand of Kentucky bluegrass on a golf course in Wilmington, Delaware. Discusses control options for fairy ring, and explains that "treating both the symptoms and cause may be the best way to control type I fairy ring in turf."
