Abstract/Contents:"Urban parks represent a considerable capital investment. They often occupy prime sites in the middle of urban areas where land values are very considerable indeed. To justify their existence they require to be both used and esteemed by the public. To secure this they have to be maintained to the best standards that are traditional in public horticulture in Britain, but they also have to be made interesting in other ways as well. Mostly this means investing in them by way of building new facilities and modernising older ones and by providing entertainments and attractions of other kinds as well. Examples are given, from Nottingham and Aberdeen, of the various ways in which the public can be attracted to the urban park."
