Abstract/Contents:"The chemical and mechanical soil analysis is very useful in building and maintaining green areas. It is strongly underlined that sampling is properly done. The soil sample should consist of several parts taken out with a soilborer or a spade. Every part should consist of the same amount from every layer to a depth of 10-20 cm. Living and dead plant material from the surface should be separated from the sample. It is recommended to sample early in the spring or late in the autumn. Fertilizing immediately before sampling should be avoided. Chemical analysis is sufficient for maintaining most grass areas. Constructors of football fields, greens or other first class turfs or lawns have good advantages in making a mechanical analysis. When constructing according to the gravel-bed-method the mechanical analysis is necessary in order to choose the proper material."
