| Abstract/Contents: | "Landskrona football ground was built in the early twenties. The top soil used was very clayey (Fig. 1). Due to compactness and poor water penetration the pitch has been in a miserable condition during recent years. When the football season was ended in October 1969 a draining system was made (Fig. 2, 3). During the summer brake [break] of the football league in 1970 the drainage slits were made in June (Fig. 4). The ditches were filled with 10 cm of pebbles sized 8-12 mm, to a height of 10 cm above the pipes. Above that layer gravel, sized 2-4 mm, were filled to a height of 7 cm from the surface. On top of that 4 cm of top soil was brought back. After that the turf was replaced. The slits cross-wise the ditches were filled with gravel, sized 3-5 mm. The pitch was then allowed to rest during July and was carefully kept. The main ditch which leads the drainage water away is fitted with a valve. If the valve is closed the water consumption could be reduced during dry periods. When necessary it is also possible to a certain extent to irrigate from beneath. The pitch has been used for two seasons after the draining work was done. The results are very satisfactory. The damages made by the draining work were healed very soon. Thanks to the draining it is now possible to play on a reasonably dry and firm ground even in wet weather." |
