Abstract/Contents:Discusses the future of golf course design and some of the confronting problems and conceptual trends in golf course design and construction. The conceptual problems discussed include extreme land costs, inflation and financing, and increased construction costs. Also discusses expensive maintenance and operational budgets, environmental regulations regarding wetlands, the lack or decline in fossil fuels, and water shortages. Conceptual trends of the future include a reduction in playing lengths, developing a strategic, shorter course, reduced and re-evaluated land usage, effluent and ground water usage regarding irrigation technology, and turfgrass development and soil studies.
