Abstract/Contents:Provides a study on turfgrass distribution in Florida, especially regarding Stenotaphrum secundatum, its genetic variations, and management recommendations. Three southern Florida counties were sampled and studied, as well as three metropolitan areas. Visual evaluations were given and data was classified into three groups: Floratam, bitterblue/floratine, and Florida common/roselawn, with group 3 considered pasture type. Results indicate that about 50% of Stenotaphrum is group three. Variety distribution depends on class of property and location, and improved types of 1 and 2 were infrequent in non-maintenance areas. A sod survey was conduced regarding Floratam, and results show that sod sold at nurseries, whether certified or not, was generally indistinguishable of being a standard Floratam or not.
