Abstract/Contents:Properly maintained turfgrass with intended use in mind will tolerate a lot of wear. Blending of several varieties of Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis) with same rhizome, color and texture qualities can produce a good turf but maintenance must be exact to get desired results. Breeding of fine-textured varieties of perennial ryegrass Lolium perenne) have resulted in outstanding wearability and have also kept the good attributed of quick germination and seeding vigor. Between the varieties of Manhattan, Pennfire, Citation, Derby and others, Manhattan was the best. Blending of 70 to 80% turf type perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) with 20 to 30% Kentucky bluegrass in cool, maritime climate with summers not too hot would form a very good well-wearing and attractive turf. Perennial ryegrasses (Lolium perenne) offer best advantage for period seeding.
