Abstract/Contents:"Turfgrass teaching and research like any other phase of the industry enjoys success or failure depending upon the people involved. Turfgrass education (kept up to date through research) sets the pace for progress. Attitudes are passed from person to person and ultimately the public decides whether it has confidence in us or not. Each of us is a credit or a liability to our field of specialization. The man then, is the most important ingredient of the Man, Machine, Management concept. Nevertheless, we cannot do without machines in turfgrass teaching and research any more than we can produce turf commercially without them. Machines may replace men to a very limited extent but their real value is in liberating man for more productive projects. We must first attract highly qualified men and then take full advantage of the technology of this machine and computer age to accomplish most. Finally, through management of all resources - men and machines - a high quality product results. The key to continued success lies in keeping the `man' in management and the machine adaquate for the task."
