| Abstract/Contents: | Announces that the United States Golf Association (USGA) Green Section's Turf Advisory Service (TAS) is celebrating it's 50th anniversary in 2003. Profiles TAS, "one of the Green Section's primary outreach programs, offering up regional agronomists to visit golf courses for an impartial review of maintenance operations at a facility, whether during troubled times or as a simple refresher." Also briefly discusses The Environmental Institute for Golf, stating that "one of the most important goals of The Institute is to dramatically increase the number of superintendents who, 1) understand the principles and practices of good environmental stewardship, 2) regularly consider the impact of their daily decisions and actions on the environment, 3) act to minimize the negative effects and to improve environmental sustainability, and 4) document what they have done." Concludes that when superintendents "educate [themselves] about the environment and do the right thing, credit and recognition will follow." |
