| Abstract/Contents: | "Colletotrichum spp. cause crown rotting anthracnose (CRA) on Poa annua (annual bluegrass) and Agrostis palustris (creeping bentgrass), two important turfgrass species used on golf courses. The relationships between Colletotrichum spp. infecting these amenity turfgrasses has never been determined. The morphological characters currently used for distinguishing species in this genus have been demonstrated to be plastic in the Gramineae. Molecular markers including isozymes and randomly amplified polymorphic DNAs (RAPDs) have been used to differentiate species of Colletotrichum infecting maize and sorghum. The objective of this study is to examine the relatedness of isolates of Colletotrichum spp. causing CRA using isozymes. Initial results from this study show electrophoretic phenotypes that correlate with host species. Isozyme data will be analyzed to determine the relationships within the group of Colletotrichums causing CRA." |
