| Abstract/Contents: | Reports results of tests conducted at Texas A&M University to determine the effects that potassium has on turfgrass quality and root growth characteristics of St. Augustinegrass. Also root and shoot responses to soil moisture deficits were studied in St. Augustinegrass. Increased potassium fertilization significantly improved turfgrass quality ratings of turf after 14 days without water. Shoot growth declined rapidly without water but potassium fertilization increases did not significantly affect shoot growth. Potassium fertilization did create a significant increase in root growth on both watered and unwatered turf. Total root dry weights were increased with potassium fertilization. |
