Abstract/Contents: | Describes experiments conducted on natural weed infested golf course fairways. States that weed control data were obtained from averages of 2-4 years depending on weed species from 1-3 test sites. Weeds included: annual bluegrass, parsley-piert, corn speedwell, hop clover, henbit, common chickweed, and spurweed. Reports that optimum control from pre-emergence herbicides was achieved from treatments in October. Of the pre-emergence, simazine controlled annual bluegrass, hop clover, spur weed, and common chickweed; Devrinol controlled annual bluegrass, corn speadwell, spurweed and common chickweed; Ronstar controlled annual bluegrass, hop clover, corn speedwell, henbit and common chickweed. Of the postemergence: Sencor controlled all five weed species. Round-up and paraquat resulted in similar control, but two applications were needed for parsley-piert and henbit. Of combination postemergence treatments, mixtures of Kerb and broadleaf herbicides were not compatible. These herbicides should be used in separate application. Paraquat applied alone or in combinations with any of the broadleaf type of herbicides controlled annual bluegrass completely. Bermudagrass should be completely dormant with applying Roundup or paraquat. |
