Abstract/Contents: | Bradley S. Klein recaps the condition of Shinnecock Hills for the 104th U.S. Open, as he was the first to play the course after the tournament was finished. Klein describes the hardness and color of the greens. Klein states that "hitting four greens in regulation failed to yield a single ball mark." Klein describes the U.S. Open golfer's reactions to the course as well as the USGA's inability to explain the course's condition. Klein explains that "if the crew and the USGA had let the course get lush and soft, they would have been chastised for making the course too easy." Klein states that "it remains to be seen whether the USGA will develop a better policy of course setup and explaining its decisions, especially when things go wrong." |
