Abstract/Contents:Discusses the changes in insects that have been seen in recent years, explaining that "it is important to point out that turfgrass has changed [as well]." Discusses the nature of insects, stating that "insects have a remarkable ability to take advantage of what we offer them. There are numerous insects that feed on turfgrass and they are more likely to be attracted to turfgrass that is healthy and lush." Describes how the pesticides that are used have been a major factor in the shifting of pest problems. States that "many of the newer insecticides we use today do not have such a broad spectrum of control and typically have less potential to negatively impact the environment. These more narrow spectrum products usually do a very good job controlling the target pest, but not against some other insects pests that may be present at lower numbers." Discusses the increased incidence of earthworms on golf courses throughout the world. States that "recent studies have indicated that a slightly different strain of fall armyworms may be creating some new problems in turfgrass."
