Abstract/Contents:"In the present paper the results of a trial are presented which deals with the influence of the components of the mixture and the cultivars of Lolium perenne and Poa pratensis on the early performance of turf. From these results the following conclusions are drawn: 1) The importance of the choice of cultivars by Lolium perenne with regard to the properties turf density, deficiencies in the general aspect and damage by the roller in most mixtures the rangorder of the examined cultivars was: LORETTA, SPRINTER, MAJESTIC, MANHATTAN. The turf density of cultivars of Lolium perenne in pure seedings is not alone decisive for their compatibility and their usefulness in the turf mixtures as the results with the cultivar SPRINTER have shown. 2) The importance of the choice of cultivars by Poa pratensis. Despite the interaction between cultivars of Lolium perenne and the two cultivars of Poa pratensis KIMONO and FYLKING with regard to their percentage in the turf there was only a comparatively little interaction between Lolium perenne and Poa pratensis with regard to the turf qualifications, turf density, deficiencies in the general aspect and damage by the roller. Therefore it is not necessary to pay regard to the cultivars of Poa pratensis while chosing a cultivar of Lolium perenne. 3) The importance of the relation in the mixture between Lolium perenne and Poa pratensis. The relation of the components in the mixture above all has an influence in the early development of the mixture and influences only by Lolium perenne cultivars with low sward density also the sward density in later years. The influence of the choice of cultivars by Lolium perenne on the properties of the turf is more important than the relation of the components in the mixture."
